Fire destroys home

Cordele — Crisp Fire & Rescue, Sheriff's Department personnel, Emergency Medical Service and Crisp County Power responded to a fire at the Schielman Street home on N. Coney Rd. shortly after 1 p.m. Monday.

No one was at home at the time of the blaze, and the structure was fully  involved when firefighters arrived. As they battled the blaze, flames shot through the roof.

Red Cross volunteers have been notified that the family needs assistance, as the home was declared a total loss.
