CORDELE — At their Tuesday meeting, Crisp County Commissioners appointed five members to the Crisp-Turner Joint Development Authority.
Bruce Drennan, William Culpepper and Eli Tinsley were appointed to serve two-year terms on the Authority. Marlene Kimball will serve a three-year term, and Dravian McGill, a four-year term.
Also, Hal Carter Jr. was appointed to the Crisp County Board of Assessors.
Commissioners heard a request from Patrick’s Investments to rezone 4.89 acres for the purpose of constructing a warehouse facility and office headquarters. The property is located at the intersection of Hwy. 300 S. and Antioch Road.
Bo Patrick, owner of Patrick’s Investments, a contractor, Bubba Rogers, and Patrick’s son, Milton provided drawings for the 6,000 sq. ft. warehouse and the 2,000 sq. ft. office.
Eddie Rigsby and his wife have lived across the road from the property in question about 20 years, he said. He indicated that he doesn’t really oppose the location of the warehouse but he does have general concerns about traffic and value of the property.
A decision about the rezoning will be made at the April commission meeting.
In her report, Financial Director Sherry Leverette said the revenues are exceeding the expenditures by 8 %. Cash on hand at the end of February, she said, was $11,958,32 for the general fund, landfill fund, water fund, revolving loan fund, and capital projects.
County Administrator Gene Crapse reported there was one new SPLOST purchase approved this month to buy drainage pipe in the amount of $12,920.81.
Crapse reported that the Crisp Board of Elections and Registration has been notified by the State that it will no longer provide, repair or replace computer equipment needed for elections.
SPLOST (special purpose local option sales tax) collections for January were $344,417, the largest since September 2009 and larger than any other month in 2009, Leverette reported. LOST (Local Option Sales Tax) collections for January were $161,876.25, the largest since September 2009 and larger than any other month in 2009 also.
Crapse reported that the Elections Office has moved into the old Probate Court space in the government center.
In other business, Commissioners:
• Approved a 2010 census proclamation and encouraged all residents to participate.
• Approved the Boys and Girls Club after school program on certain conditions. The cost to participants will be $75 for an 8-week program and $25 for drop-ins for a day. Parents must commit to this 8-week program, and the minimum number of children enrolled must be 35. If enrollment drops below 25 children, the after school program will stop.
• Approved a beer and wine license for Quick Buys on Hwy. 300 for Sunitaden Patel pending the payment of property taxes.
