Cordele — For well over 100 years, worship services have been conducted under the historic Dooly Campground tabernacle three miles west of Vienna just off Hwy. 90. The annual campmeeting begins again Sunday, June 26 through Thursday, June 30 with both morning and evening services.
Newly appointed Americus District Superintendent Rev. Wayne Moseley will conduct each of the services and bring both the 11 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. messages on Sunday. Most of the United Methodist churches in Dooly County customarily transfer their Sunday morning services to the campground, and the Byromville UMC charge provides lunch for visitors.
Music for this service will be provided by the Vienna UMC sanctuary choir.
Different pastors have been invited to preach at each of the weekday services, according to the following schedule: Rev. Eddie Braswell, Monday at 11 a.m. and Rev. Ben Martin at 7:30 p.m.; Rev. Dennis Stalvey, Tuesday at 11 a.m. and Rev Lowery Brantley at 7:30 p.m.; Rev. John Walker at 11 a.m. Wednesday and Rev. Shane Green at 7:30 p.m.; Rev. Rick Hamilton, Thursday at 11 a.m. and Rev. Henry Bass at 7:30 p.m.
In conjunction with the camp meeting, youth and children will be involved in camping activities on the grounds. Third through ninth graders will arrive on Sunday, June 26 and remain through Wednesday, June 29. Older teens and adults will be working with the youth and children.
Dooly Campground belongs to United Methodist Churches in the Americus District which stretches east and west from Dawson to Lumber City and north and south from Perry to Warwick.
Crisp, Dooly and Wilcox counties are in the Americus District.
