Cordele police probe several thefts

From STAFF REPORTS

CORDELE — Thieves stole a necklace, a small amount of cash, a cell phone and a bicycle in incidents reported to Cordele Police Department officers Wednesday and Thursday.

Reporting the disappearance of the money and jewelry was a local motel guest who through an interpreter told Lt. Louis New the items were taken from his room on July 4.

Filing the missing cell phone complaint with Sgt. Charles Hill was Tosha Gaines who said her white and aqua Nakia phone valued at $200 was taken from a computer desk while she was in class at South Georgia Technical School.

The bicycle theft report was made by Ricco Rogers who told Cpl. Jesse Barfield his black, red and grey Mongoose two-wheeler was taken sometime Wednesday from outside a 24th Avenue West business.

In other activity, police:

— Received a couple of damaged property complaints in which the victims were unable to provide neither a time frame for the incidents nor the names of possible suspects.

A 25th Ave. E. resident told Cpl. Dedra Davis the back bumper on the driver’s side door of her 2002 Ford Taurus had been struck. A Pecan Street resident told the same officer the passenger side rear view window and front and back door of her 2002 Suzuki Esteem had been damaged.

— Filed a shoplifting (third offense) and probation violation charges against Angela Denise Lawson, 26, of 205 Rowell Rd.

Sgt. Robert Green said a Dollar General employee told him the alleged offender had taken several health care items from the store without making payment for them. The officer later located Dawson and reportedly recovered items valued at $4.50 from her.

— Cited a 41-year-old Tampa, Fla., woman for speeding in a construction site and being a habitual violator.

Capt. Tommy Jackson made the charges against Mechelle Lafay Oliver after clocking her vehicle traveling at 77 mph in a 60 mph zone at the 101 mile marker on I-75.

— Probed a trio of harassment complaints.

A 23rd Avenue West resident told Pvt. Clinton Latham a man already told to cease contact with her as the result of a sexual assault case in Sumter County had been to her residence “to intimidate and harass” her.

A local store employee told Sgt.. Robert Montgomery that a man she named has been sending her messages through other persons and that he is “making up lies” about her.

A Fourth Street South resident told PFC. Chris Forsythe a woman he identified called him on three occasions Wednesday to make threats about his not paying child support and also to curse him.

— Made cases against two occupants of a car from which a drink was thrown at another vehicle.

A 16-year-old passenger admitted to throwing the contents of a large plastic drink cup at another vehicle traveling on 16th Avenue East because it was traveling past their car too fast. The driver in which the teen-ager was riding was cited for a violation of Class C license restrictions.

— Handed out citations to occupants of a “suspicious vehicle” reported just before 3 a.m. Thursday by 13th Avenue East residents.

Upon stopping the car, Pvt. Latham said he ran a license check on the man and woman in it and learned the driver, Horace Braden III, 34, of Abbeville, was driving on a suspended license (third violation), and the passenger, Jessica Arnold, 21, of Macon, had a warrant pending against her in Dooly County.
