Police make weekend arrests
Cordele —
Officers with the police department here stayed busy over the weekend answering just under 100 calls, resulting in the arrests of 10 individuals on a variety of charges.
On Saturday Cpl. Kristan Herrick initiated a traffic stop that led to the arrest of 22-year old Vitalino Lopez of Cordele. According to reports, while on patrol, Cpl. Herrick observed a red in color Mitsubishi Montero Sport driving erratically while traveling eastbound on 15th Avenue from 2nd Street. Herrick reported that he initiated the traffic stop in the 700 block of East 16th Avenue and upon approaching the vehicle recognized the driver as Lopez and asked him to step out of the vehicle.
After a brief investigation Herrick placed Lopez under arrest charging him with failure to maintain lane, driving with a suspended license and driving under the influence of alcohol (2nd offense). Further investigation led Herrick to learn that the Crisp County Sheriff’s Office had a contempt of court warrant issued for Lopez through the Crisp County Superior Court. Lopez was transported to the Crisp LEC for incarceration.
Just after noon Saturday, Cpl. Bruce Gourley responded to a call involving terroristic threats received by a female complainant claiming her daughter was being harassed by her ex-boyfriend.
Upon arrival at the scene Gourley made contact with the complainant, Tina Howell who reported the boyfriend, identified as Dusty Wade was traveling from Sumter County with the intentions of shooting the her daughter Brooke. Apparently the two had been involved in twelve year relationship and Howell ended it. Upon speaking with Brooke Howell she informed Gourley that she had spoken with authorities in Sumter County on several occasions and also had a temporary protective order against Wade. According to the mother Wade had informed his brother (Wesley Wade) of his plan and when asked, he informed police that his brother had in fact made several comments about harming Howell but seemed adamant about doing it this time. He further informed that his brother had asked him to contact Howell in the hopes of making her speak with him and if she didn’t he would go ‘take care of her.’ A statement form was faxed to Wade due to the fact that he resides in the Leesburg area.
A BOLO was issued for Dusty Wade, who was later picked up by deputies with the Crisp County Sheriff’s Office. Cpl. Gourley later made contact with Wade at the Crisp LEC to conduct an interview with him regarding the accusations. After being advised of his Miranda, Wade signed a waiver to speak with Gourley. While questioning Wade, Gourley said that he avoided direct answers to all questions and claimed that he was not mad at Howell and did not remember the comments his brother said that he made. He declined Gourley’s offer to write a statement and remained in the Crisp LEC on charges of terroristic threats.
Also arrested were;
• Rontavious Jamal Jackson, 19, of an Oconee Circle address. Jackson was charged with apprehension of a wanted person.
• Gabrielle Demire Davis, 22, of Pateville Heights Ct. was charged with disorderly conduct.

Lake Blackshear will be lowered
CORDELE — The Crisp County Power Commission will be lowering Lake Blackshear this fall as it does every other year.
The lake will be drawn down approximately 3 1/2 feet below normal on a gradual basis starting the first week in November (Nov. 1st) . It will remain down through the 15th of December.
The purpose of the drawdown is to allow lake property owners a chance to repair existing structures. Also, the drawdown should slow some of the aquatic plant growth in the lake.
Anyone wishing to construct new structures, including seawalls, or make substantial repairs to their existing structures are advised to contact Marcus Waters, resource manager, to determine the necessity of any needed permits from the Crisp County Power Commission and/or other state and federal agencies. -
